yea, But Vista still got it's flaws..
one of my classmates somehow managed to get a cd with Windows 7, also called 'Windows Vienna'. Looks excactly like Vista, just with all the flaws fixed
won't be released before another year and a half or so though >.>

And E, do you know if Windows 7 is taking as much RAM as Vista? Because 512 MB RAM for a OS is pretty annoying.

The only thing thats limited is a 32 bit system (XP OR Vista) can't prcess more than 3GB RAM, hence why I have 64bit Vista ^^

XP supports dual and quad..
source, please.
I'll try to ask my source too. After all, he's currently 4 meters away, and there will be a break in 8 minutes.
And why is Vista taking so much RAM? 512 MB is way too much for an OS.

There's a difference between running it, and that it supports it. AFAIK, only one of the cores are being used.

if a thing isnt supported it wont work in some cases it does anyway
if you mobo dont support socket 775 wont be able to use intels core 2 duo and quad series
and if it does support up to 12+ gb ram and your os displays only 3 gb ram your OS doesent support more than that.

Hey I'm new around here but can probably clean some things up for you
Windows XP supports both dual and quad core processors. Software might not support shared processing between the two but programs will be able to utilise the cores freely.
The difference lies in having more than one physical processor, dual processor setups, in which case you require Windows XP Pro as Home edition doesn't support that.
Windows 7 is the next version of Windows, it has had several private test candidates released and isn't very usable. It is, as is at the moment, the same as Vista bar a few working differences and a different theme. When it is released it shouldn't have as many issues as Vista had at launch due to it being based around the same kernel, it can use device drivers designed for Vista without any problem.
Vista is fine now anyway, at launch it was buggy but I can't really remember an OS that wasn't, apart from Windows 2000/NT maybe. Since SP1 Vista performs as well as XP for me, and is just as stable if not more.
Awesome processor by the way

thanks for clearing it up mate. Some great info you got us there .
My classmate has just admitted he was just trolling me when he told me. I always fall for that crap. Damn.
Unless he meant double processor.

Vista is crap Only use it 'cause of DX10 and DirectX DirectX is my favorite API for programming, and almost all games use DirectX
Anyways, if you belived that an OS would limit the processor us of applications and stuff, then you have to double check everything you do

I personnally think Vista is underestimated..
Sure, it was crap on release, Microsoft just couldn't wait, but after what, 20+ months? It seems fine.. well, to me it does =] and for Erik I think too.

Not for me Is a killer for custom made computers, but needed 'cause it prooves their power
Well, now I don't have a custom built one, so this one has been tested a billion times to work It shouldn't need that testing!
