Small desktop problems.

Im not sure what the problem is, but... Every time my videocard seems to be put under a strain my system fan or system speaker emmits a shrill scream. It will last anywhere from a half second to 10 seconds.

*Prebuilt compaq*

*Shiity mobo*
500watt psu from thermaltake
EVGA Geforce 7800 GS Factory Overclocked.
2gb kingston dualchannel ram(no over clock)
2ghz amd sempron cpu

average running temp is 38-50 degrees C.

could be just a cheap old fan, id have said the psu possibly too but im assuming its new. My old 7800gt whistles too
could check for dust and stuff i guess, try to pin the source of the noise down before it drives you insane!

I'm guessing slighty loose fan =]

07 will look when i get back home, if all else fails i will unplug the fan and see if it still does it.

Also, could be a heat problem. Though, that usually causes your screen to spaz.

I just did a "Torture" test. Used a overclocking tool to slowdown the fan, temp spiked to about 80degrees and the screaming started. The GPU is over heating. I cleaned the fan out, and tightened the fan down. ONly thing i can do atm with no money to get a new card.

For a simple and cheap temporary solution, get a big fan, the one used to cool rooms.
Remove the side panel, and turn the fan on to it, it ain`t nice nor silent but it works

I used to do this with my old PC! =D

UI had a problem like this with my older computer when i updated my graphics card.A 50mm fan if you have room will do wonders for the temps,if you dont have room, you can make a cut in your case and mount it.if you do that try putting the fan if wanna go this route mid center of you case.That way you it the best air flow on all the major parts.Doing this is a lot cheaper then a new card.Plus even with a new card you could still have heat problems. =P Hope this helps you out.
