    First topic message reminder :

    Hey guys,

    Always wanted to look over the shoulder of a wire pro coding an E2? There's your chance.

    TomShaw just showed me something awesome, with Xfire you can Live broadcast yourself, playing games.
    I came up with the idea, to broadcast myself, coding an E2 LIVE so you can watch behind my shoulder, coding it.

    But I need your help!
    I don't know what to code. So I'll take suggestions from you. Everyone can post freely your ideas here in the thread, there are a few guidelines you can follow:
    1. Nothing too simple. It won't be fun if I would be able to do it in 5-10 minutes.
    2. Nothing too complicated. I don't think people can watch someone coding for longer than 4 hours in a row without sleeping on the desk.
    3. It should be POSSIBLY something that noone coded before, if you still got a good idea which isn't that popular, it would work out in emergency too.
    4. It should be possible to code with E2.
    5. The idea should be able to be realised on Bam's server with the addons installed on it.
    6. It should be more wire related than usual building stuff (Like I won't do a car, a plane or whatever since it'll primary use props, instead of wire)
    7. Nothing mingebags could abuse.
    8. Must be G-rated (no dirty stuff like porn or something)

    When I got a good idea here, I'll give out the date and time, as well as the link for the live coding. The person of the idea will get a featuring in my e2 with a comment, if the idea includes a screen, he'll get a featuring on it, too. I'm going to publicly release the E2 after, too.

    So, don't be shy, and tell me your good ideas!

    Please spread this to all your friends, making it a real popular project.

    allright i have an idea, but to be honest, i have little clue of what's hard or not but here we go:

    a pathfinding system that could show the way to certain destinations or other players with a Holo-spark emitting (one every 3 secs or so.) from you and flying to your target without clipping through the world (much like in killing floor), thus showing you the fastest walkable way to your destination.

    It would be awesome if you made a dynamic system that would work on multiple maps with little or no change in code =]

    I like your idea very much.
    It kinda reminds me of UT3, it has the same kind of system to find the enemy base.
    It's possible, until it gets to the part with not clipping through walls.
    Unfortunately, there's no possibility to detect walls or collisions with wire. I would have to coordinate everything in the map, making the e2 like 1000 lines long.
    But it would be possible, showing the beeline with clipping through walls to your target.

    In that case, if you're feeling artistic, you could replace the emitted holo-dot, with a holoarrow, if that's not too way out XD

    hmm, i have been doing allot of automation attempts lately.
    how about an automation chip for a garbage sorting facility?
    it identify's garbage into a number of catigory's : plastic|glas|metal|paper|wodd.
    picks up metal with a magnet. glas gets broken. paper and wood gets burned and plastic dumped in a bin for recycling.
    i can help on the mechanics and stuff, but automation coding is for you Very Happy

    The idea is not bad at all, but I already did something like that, and it required a lot of finetuning, so no.

    What about a holodeck, think TNG.

    A 4x4 room, with holograms to simulate things like tree's, ground, maybe a holo car? Even better, Put a pod in the center and allow the player to move around a localized "holomap". You could store items in fake positions, then scale them based on how far away they are from the players fake position, and if they are close enough, move them off the wall and onto the 4x4 floor. Allow the player to move around the localized map with wasd.

    (If you dont do this, im gonna have to try it :S)

    Also, about the pathfinding, you could use A*. Someone has already done it, but why not do your own?

    That holomap thing already exists. It got done by someone on the wiremod forums.
    Just Holoobjects are very boring to do, since they require a lot of finetuning and the code stays almost the same all the time.

    Really? I didnt see it. Maybe its new. Unless you're talking about the holominimap. I meant more of a simulated map. But I do know what you mean about it being boring. Here's one more then:

    applyForce + Forcers to emulate no-clip. Accurately. Ive tried, its a pain.
