Prehaps coz steam is a fail? try removing it and re adding it as non-steam game.

Well i can get bf2 to appear on my steam game list and as overlay. I think i know what the problem is, is it possible that your setting the link for bf2 as the 'play bf2'link instead of selecting the bf2.exe from program files?
And as a player of battlefield 2 for 4 years i personally think that the special forces expansion makes it better plus 'Knife servers' or 'Pistol and knife servers' are the most skilled and fun- plus easy points for improved ranking! I dont really play much anymore though as my laptop doesnt like Ea's games. **** knows why?!?

lolollol "Pistol only" And "Knife Pistol only" Sux badly. The cool thing about BF2 is being in an aviator and pwning everything.
I think the special forces f*cked up quite a bit. It has no aviators, and little to none other vehicles, which i think is the essence of BF2 and BF. CSS and CS are meant to be without vehicles, while BF is meant to be total pwnage that roxxorz ur boxxorz with vehicles.

stop undermining me, if you think knife and pistol matches suck then you clearly suck, nothings as fun as killing with a weak pistol!
And special forces is good i was sick of the americans being the only allies, it was about damn time to put the SAS in something!

I understand your POV, and i totally agree, nothings more cool.
On the other hand, i think that the vehicles were implanted into the game because of the fact that they can be used. As you said, nothings more cool than stalking down an unknowing oppenent, and gutting him with you knife, but nothings more satisfying than running some jerk over in a jeep, or blasting him to molecules with a monstorous tank. And there's especially nothing more satisfying than flying over a base, seeing your name appear more than twice on the message log xD.

but apart from that, there's unfortunately a few games that the steam overlay ain't gonna' marry. I'm not sure if BF2 is one of them, but i do have some prime examples if need be.

yah mines foine :S and Bam EA is worse than valve , there constant patches , updates take hours to download (sometmies) and there online gaming system sucks
